Intel Prepares Video Super Resolution Technology to Improve Video Streaming

Nvidia recently launched RTX Video Super Resolution technology , which uses AI upscaling to stream video in the browser.

This is an analogue of DLSS, but for watching video. This technology improves picture quality or saves traffic by using a lower input resolution. It turns out that Intel is working on a similar technology, and it can already be force-enabled on some graphics cards.

The technology will be available not only on discrete Intel Arc graphics cards, but also on embedded solutions, starting with the 10th generation Core processors. You can try to enable Intel Video Super Resolution on Chrome version 109 and later. The browser must have hardware acceleration enabled. After that, in the properties of the shortcut, you need to add a special launch parameter that activates Intel scaling.

The quality of the final image depends on the original video and the performance of a particular GPU. Some users are already sharing the results on Twitch and Bilibili, showing comparison screenshots. And we do see an improvement in clarity in the presented images.

At the same time, Intel has not officially announced this technology, so there are no guarantees of its performance on all configurations.
